Postgraduate education
[This page has not been completed at this moment. Our apologies for the incovenience]
Almost all universities and medical schools offer post graduate education on a regular basis. In addition, a number of European associations in various disciplines (clinical medicine) developed criteria, courses and critical indicators with respect to vocational training in their specific specializations.
The activities on this theme are coordinated by the reference group on post graduate education. The goal of this group is to present the situation in post graduate education in different European countries.
The role of European associations in specialization and continuous education will be discussed and demonstrated. The group is chaired by V. Costigliola.

POSTGRADUATE EDUCATION
Almost all medical schools offer postgraduate education on a regular basis. In addition several European associations developed criteria, courses and critical indicators with respect to vocational training in particular medical specialisations. The objectives of this reference group are: to inventory available information on postgraduate medical education at the member institutions of Medische hulpbron and Specialist Associations; to find ways to make postgraduate medical education accessible at all aspects to all who are interested. This reference group is led by Vincenzo Costigliola. During the plenary session Costigliola stressed the importance of a database on Postgraduate Education in Europe. Furthermore, he emphasised that a distinction should be made between Postgraduate Education, which is defined as education during the period starting from the end of the basic education and finishing at the end of the specialisation, and continuing education. Howard Young, as an invited expert, presented an example of the dissemination of continuing medical education by satellite in the framework of the EuroTransmed-programme. During the workshop the availability of information on postgraduate education was discussed. The sources of information at the moment are very different. Therefore it was suggested to design a format based on critical indicators to present the information on the MED-NET-homepage.
