MED-NET Bylaws

INTRODUCTION

MED-NET started in May 1996 in Sardegna, Italy during a mutual meeting of International Co-operation Projects (ICP's) on medical education within the ERASMUS programme of the European Commission. The various project partners in the ERASMUS networks assigned their co-ordinators to form a Task Force, and to join the different projects into one thematic network.

The merging of the ERASMUS networks into one thematic network was based on the experienced needs to get a 'complete picture' on Medical Education in Europe, and to establish a meeting point for staff and student exchange within the new SOCRATES-programme.

MED-NET developed as a forum for continuous discussion and communication on topical issues in medical education in Europe. It also acts as a source and an intermediate for comparative studies, for exchange of information and experiences, and for co-operative projects between all who are involved in medical education, e.g. faculties of medicine, medical schools, hospitals, teachers, education managers and students.

The Task Force, in co-operation with three associations involved in Medical Education (i.e. AMSE, EMA and IFMSA). Structured her assignment in a network management group and in a number of thematically oriented 'reference groups'. The communication with the members was organised in the form of conferences, newsletters and a MED-NET Internet site (https://med-net.nl).

The present bylaws form the official description of the organisation structure and the procedures that were developed since the formation of the network in 1996.
