Section 1. Objectives
The specific objectives of MED-NET are:
- To inventory and analyse available data, databases and data/information resources concerning Medical Education in Europe
- To integrate and structure information and providing user-friendly access to a broad target audience
- To provide publications, and programs at meetings.
- To promote co-operation projects and exchange of information.
- To promote and harmonise the ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) in medical education, leading to full mutual recognition of curricula
- To provide help and support to the MED-NET member institutions concerning improvement and innovation in medical education.
- To establish and maintain liaisons with organisations concerned with Medical Education.
Section 2. Activities
The main target of activities is to collect and structure information concerning specific topics, to make recommendations for new policies, and to perform investigations and analysis of information. The achievements are made accessible to the MED-NET members through regular MED-NET communication channels. The overall approach to collect and analyse data and information concerning the different determinants and issues on Medical Education shall include:
- Inquiries. Special attention is directed to gather information needs, to find out where gaps in data-provision are felt, and which specific expertise is available or lacking at the participating universities.
- Workshops and study groups. During these activities experts from various universities and organisations exchange information, and discuss ideas and concepts on specialised topics. These may range from practical administrative or organisational topics to theoretical concepts concerning educational strategies or education management.
- Conferences. The yearly conferences are the principal occasions where all partners and invited experts may present their experiences, data and results of investigations, inquiries and/or evaluations. The conferences will be organised in two main parts, i.e. a professional part with special plenary sessions, workshops, demonstrations and poster sessions, and an administrative part concerning practical affairs of exchange, co-operation and (education) management.
- Projects. As a result of inquiries, workshops, meetings and conferences an impetus can be given to further investigate special topics concerning medical Education. For that goal projects shall be developed and executed where consortia of universities co-operate. These projects shall have clear assignments in terms of objectives (methods, duration, expected achievements and budget); may arise from proposals by members; and may include external participants such as companies, associations, other networks or non-member universities and the basis of their expertise
- Publications. The results of inquiries, workshops and study groups shall be published in MED-NET monographs. On a regular basis a MED-NET newsletter shall be published.
- Mastering of an Internet site. On the site: https://med-net.nl all publications and data shall be published and be made accessible to MED-NET members. Also the site will provide links to all medical faculties, medical schools and medical universities in Europe, as well as to relevant organisations active in medical education (pre-graduate, post graduate and continuous education).
