Medical semiology training present and future

Dr. T. Tiberiu and Prof. Dr. V. Ulmeanu (Constanta, Romania)

Due to its central position in the medical learning process, Medical Semiology, through its forming and modelling function, represents, in the first place, an instructive discipline. Related to this aspect, the improvement of the instructive-educational process is based on the modern pedagogic principles and methods, mainly on the organic interconnection of the three fundamental activities learning - researching - participating, all of them adjusted to this disciplines nature. A fundamental principle of this disciplines education is the synchronisation between the lecture and the clinical practice. Clinical practice, as the name says, has an exclusive practical nature from both the anamnesis, physical examination and the laboratory point of view. It was proved that a serious obstacle that a third year student has to face is represented by the sensation of insecurity offered by the new role in which he finds himself, due to their lack of experience.

Learning the art of clinical examination, gaining a personal experience are, all, realised during the clinical practice at the patients bed which represents the place where the student is formed into the future doctor. The immediate participation at the entire clinical activity, the direct contact with the patient change the students psychology, develops his capacity of professional orientation and professional discrimination and also his spirit of medical responsibility and of auto-discipline at work. Based on the integrative conception of the human body, conceived as hole the importance of the physiopathological interrelations between, different organs and systems, in different pathological situations is proved. In this manner, the students have the opportunity to observe and to convince themselves that their acquired knowledge represent a way of knowing through their own activity, and in the same time, a way of establishing independently, certain conclusions. So, the relation between the knowledge the methods of investigation and the medical practice is demonstrated.
