Master in International Health - A European programme offered by TropEdEurop
A. Hoffmann, C. Mantel and A. Torres (Basel, Switserland)
TropEdEurop is a network and an association with 21 member institutions from 10 European countries. It is the training and educational branch of TROPMEDEUROP- the association of institutes and schools of Tropical Medicine in Europe.
The aim of TropEdEurop is the promotion of excellence in postgraduate education and training in International Health. This is accomplished by fostering mobility of students and teachers, facilitating exchange of knowledge and skills and the encouragement of interdisciplinary approaches. 3Since one year TropEdEurop offers a flexible modular masters programme in International Health for full-time or part-time study comprising a core course, advanced modules and a research project or thesis. The innovation to other 'European' programmes is the fact, that participants must study at a minimum if two institutions in different countries within Europe.
The presentation will focus not only on the things the network has succeeded in, but also on the problems arising from the different educational systems in the participating countries and of their solutions.
The presentation will also show that such a network is a good example, that different systems in different European countries has not to be seen as barriers, but as a chance to develop a common educational programme integrating the differences
