Medical education and the new technologies: Computer-Assisted Multimedia as an instructional tool in teaching clinical anatomy
M. Tavares, J. Dinis Machado (Porto, Portugal)
The use of CD-ROM's as instructional resources in the program of clinical anatomy started in the academic year of 1997/98 at the Medical School of Porto. This project in medical education aims to enhance the degree of accusation of "anatomical reasoning" in medical students, developing the capabilities of active learning through the early introduction of new media and technologies of learning in the program of a basic specific discipline.
Students' comments on the sessions were very positive, emphasising the integration of clinical information, quality of anatomical imaging, degree of inter-activity, simplicity of use and self- assessment questions. They suggested an increase in the number of computers and available programs (project Praxis XXI PCSH/C/CED/l57/96).
