TUTORAID, a powerful multimedia tool for self-learning, collaborative learning and feedback between teachers and students

Tutoraid means "Teaching Utilities Through On-line RDBMS And Interactive Discussions". The ultimate goal is to offer generic operational service with self-learning and collaborative learning applications for teachers and students. This interactive multimedia database will be fully exploited in our medical curriculum innovation. The students have access to otherwise dispersed educational information and they have the opportunity to study and to exercise on their own at any time and any place.

Courseware is made available via a network. The teacher can insert colour pictures, sound and video, typical clinical and laboratory information, references to textbooks and URL's. He can construct multiple choice (multimedia) questions with explanation of correct or wrong answers and optional feedback instructions. Scores and statistical results are foreseen to the teaching staff as well as to the students. Students can give remarks on any topic. These remarks can be seen and discussed via a self-implemented bulletin board system, which stimulates co-operation amongst tutors and students. They can compile their own, personal notes in connection with each paragraph of the course, multimedia element or MCQ.

At the conference a demonstration has been given on how Tutoraid can be used to teach electrical activity of the heart and electrocardiography.
