Catering for postgraduate Vietnamese paediatricians in French hospitals

Since 1993, a paediatric network, partly financed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has been set between the Faculty of Medicine of Hanoi (Vietnam) and the French Faculties of Lille (Catholic University) and Amiens (University of Picardie -Jules Verne). Three times a year, two French paediatricians go to Vietnam for two weeks to give postgraduate courses on paediatrics. Each year 4 to 6 Vietnamese paediatricians are selected to come to France for a year as residents in paediatric departments.

The regular co-operation, and a meeting organised in Hanoi in October 1997 with most of the French paediatricians, the Vietnamese professors of paediatrics and the paediatricians who had the opportunity to come to France, allowed us to underline the positive aspects, but also the difficulties encountered during these years.
